No College Football playoffs, please. source ESPN By Chuck Klosterman
I have been hearing the local radio DJ on (103.9 the Edge) talk about how much he hates the College Bowls and the BCS system. Well I'm going to go with Chuck Klosterman of ESPN page 2 and say that college football fan would suffer under a playoff system. If there is one thing you can say about college football it is that all teams are not created equal. In fact there is a very lopsided edge to major schools and conferences which will never be balanced out. So with a playoff system there would be a couple of problems. 1) the seeding would likely eliminate small conference school unless it was opened up to about 16 teams. 2) Match ups would include minor schools verses more legitimate contenders. 3) Blowouts would be the norm and there would be low viewship until the final rounds. 4) Underdog championship games would be largely ignored. 5) There would only be one winner. Now, more people think #5 is the great thing but why do they need one winner when so many small schools could be a in a bowl game but still feel like champions. The real point behind the BCS is that teams fight during the regular season to become the 2 best teams in the land and then we pit those teams against each other. This ensures high tv ratings and the highest quality of football. Other match ups down the bowl schedule also match up generally equal teams of lower quality making 30 watchable football games which is more then you can say for the regular season. If finding the real champion with a playoff system was the only point of this then they need to make the BCS balloting more accurate not go to a playoff system that would just extend the regualr season.
