New England Patriots Wildcard DisasterAnother year of NFL parody has a unwitnessed disaster at hand. Only 5 years after the realignment of the league into 8 division it is foreseeable that the Patriots and the worst division in football, the AFC East will send a division leader to the playoffs with a record worse then the wildcard contenders. This BCS like disaster is the result of the automatic bids given by the NFL to the leader of each division. Under normal circumstances the division leaders are the best teams in the NFL but this years poopfest of parity teams will likely force a team with a better record out of the playoffs due to a lack of space. I've always hated the NFL's 12 team system on playoffs. 1st round byes are nice but I would rather them add four teams making it 16 teams playing and eliminate the first round byes. It would be similar to the NHL and NBA systems. These extra spots would almost ensure top wildcard teams a chance to play, add 4 more games to the playoffs and eliminate the silly bye week for the top two teams. I understand football is a tough sport but that's why there are the fewest games of any sport. The bye week in the playoff only establishes a pass for the best teams undermining the wildcard potentially making them weaker challengers and therefore adding a pointless "wildcard weekend" before the good teams play. I say add a week off for everyone after the season and then play straight through to the Superbowl.Labels: NFL

Deion Sanders Adopts Noel Devine
Story from nfl.com: June 17th, 2005. I lifted this from NoelDevine.net and think it is awesome, its exactly what I was talking about that millionaire need to do more for the comunities they were raised, rather then buying fancy cars and gold teeth.Deion Sanders now has bigger responsibilities to consider than trying to stop opposing offenses on third and long. According to a report on NFL.com, the defensive back known more for big talk and end-zone dances is planning to adopt 17-year-old Noel Devine, a highly touted high school running back, who is without parents and in need of a father figure. Both of Devine's parents are deceased, and he's been living with a friend, Robert Harlow, for the last three years.
"The principal of my high school told me about him a couple of years ago," the 37-year-old Sanders said. "Said the young man needed guidance. I didn't follow through then, but was back in my hometown for a Jevon Kearse event recently. Three more people told me about Noel and his struggles. I've spent some time with the young man, and he needs direction. He doesn't have parents; they died. God put this young man in my heart. This is not about sports. This is about a kid's life."Devine, while playing at North Fort Myers (Fla.) High, the school from which Sanders graduated in 1985, had a two-game stretch last October in which he averaged 35 yards per carry. Devine rushed for more than 2,700 yards and scored more than 30 touchdowns in his first two varsity seasons.
Now, Devine will be moving to Texas, where he will live with Sanders and play high school football at Prosper High School, a Class 2A school north of Frisco. He is also expected to be one of the top recruits nationally for the Class of 2007, and has six schools on his short list of college choices — Miami, Michigan, Georgia, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Florida State, Sanders' alma mater.
"My wife would tell you all through our life together that I've talked about adopting a child and giving a kid a chance who otherwise wouldn't have one," Sanders told the Dallas Morning News. "It's about giving someone an opportunity to have a chance in life."Labels: NFL
Songwriter Wins Case Against Madonna From a/p on Yahoo. This was so funny, every few days I have been watching the Dana Carvey Show that I got from myspleen.com and there was an episode like this "yesterday" (really it was taped in 1996) . Dana Carvey played this weirdo that called himself Madonny and he dressed just like her even the hair from the day of her first album, the black gloves and skirt. Well he claimed that Madonna stole everything from songs to music video down to his personal style. Only he is an Italian guy from Brooklyn. It was hysterical, he was dancing and doing fake music videos. His Material Boy video was almost a good song and had me rolling on the floor to with absurdity. But now this legitimizes the whole thing, maybe Madonna is a huge fake and steals all her stuff, only time will tell.
Tivo can't save you now!In a story on yahoo titled: WGA seeks code of conduct for TV product placement, there are talks about suing advertiser for placing subliminal commercials in the shows they sponsor. Maybe a well placed soda can or a movie poster. These ads are not fairly identified as such so they become TV spam! We all remember Wayne's Worlds satire of product placement but I was just watching Medium on NBC and the character wanted to go to a movie, they showed the movie poster on the wall and then the following commercial was for the actual movie. Wow, talk about blatant, the show is actually saying go see this movie! Now, I don't really mind but if people feel they are being pushed too hard by these ads its only going to hurt the show and not likely sell any additional products. To me, advertising only serves the purpose to introduce new products. We all know Coke, they don't have to show their ad every 15 minutes, now
Fresca is ok because I thought they stopped selling that stuff years ago. Point being as people Tivo and skip commercial the marketing people will find another way. The internet has already figured it out with streaming video commercials before you can watch the content and not providing a way to bypass these ads. Its just the price we pay for "free" music videos or news clips. Once TV converts to HD in 2006, most people won't have a HD DVR and VCRs will be completely obsolete. But you just wait Microsoft Media Centers will be right around the corner (two or three years) and then you can record your show and email it to a friend from your couch.
New Orleans: let it sink.A recent new story titled: Architects Envision New Orleans Rebuilding, talks about how they plan to rebuild New Orleans. What the hell is wrong with these people. For years scientist have predicted the demise of the city via rising tides and eroding soil, why are they surprised the ocean finally downed it? Leave the city alone, let it sink! At least it can become a coral reef or swamp land. The ground will never be solid enough to rebuild on and likely should have been aboadon 100 years ago.
I found some news stories from 2001 warning us: "The fact that New Orleans has not already sunk is a matter of luck. If slightly different paths had been followed by Hurricanes Camille, which struck in August 1969, Andrew in August 1992 or George in September 1998, today we might need scuba gear to tour the French Quarter." "Emergency planners believe that it is a foregone conclusion that the Big Easy someday will be hit by a scouring storm surge. And, given the tremendous amount of coastal-area development, this watery "big one" will produce a staggering amount of damage." source:http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/research/1282151.html
"Over the last 50 years, land loss rates had accelerated from 10 miles to 40 miles per year by the 1970s, with the current rate being approximately 25 square miles or 16,000 acres of wetlands a year. Coastal Louisiana is poised to lose more than 10,000 acres per year for the foreseeable future. " source:http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2000/01/000121071306.htm
We all knew this would happen and we all know this is the begining not the end. This city will be off the map in 10 years, why don't we save money and let it go. We already have blown our budget on Iraq, Florida and the Bush 2nd term economics, why not call it even so we don't have to do this again in 5 years.
TO could learn from Mr Deeds/Adam Sandler:
Quote from Mr Deeds:
Kevin Ward: I passed for 3,500 yards last season and I ain't gonna touch a football...
...until you get off your fat, rich asses and renegotiate my bullshit contract.
Mr Deeds: Easy with the language, buddy. There are ladies present.
Kevin Ward:Shut the hell up, rich boy!
I want more money, or you all can just suck my--
Mr Deeds: (Punches Ward in the face) I warned you.
You went down like a sack of potatoes, I'll tell you that much. Come on.
(Helps ward up) Come on, big man. Upsy-daisy.
What's the problem with your contract?
Kevin Ward:I figured if I played well, I'd renegotiate and get more money.
Mr Deeds:lf you didn't play well, could we renegotiate and pay you less?
Kevin Ward:Shit, no!
I mean, no.
Mr Deeds:Doesn't seem fair to me.
Father Ward:He led the League in touchdown passes.
Mr Deeds:That's okay, Chuck. I got this one.
Kevin Ward:Listen, fellows, I want more money...
...or I ain't even gonna play another down.
Mr Deeds:Well, we'll have to let you go then.
Kevin Ward:"Let me go"?
Mr Deeds:Yeah, you're fired.
Kevin Ward:So can I sign with another team?
Mr Deeds:You can do anything. I suggest you change your attitude...
...or nobody will want to work with you.
'Bye.
Someone:Kevin won the Heisman Trophy two years ago. He is our best player.
Mr Deeds:Don't worry, he'll be back.
Biggest mistake of your lives!
So anyways, Terrell owens is a spoiled brat player demanding more money when guess what he was hurt through 4 or five games last year and they didn't win the Super Bowl. He has a bad attitude and Philly is just so feed up they had to be strong or else every year some jerk player will try and force their hand. So good bye TO. The Falcons will be the only team willing to take you but be prepared to take a pay cut.Labels: Movie, NFL
