The Future Conan
Late Night with Conan O'Brien has this running skit were they predict outrageous things to happen in the future but that's what's so great about the future or predicting it. No one knows what is going to happen and unless it comes true people forget everything that is said. My earliest future memory was in 3rd grade when our Weekly Reader news for kids predicted by the year 2000 smog would be so bad we would live under water. Well that's not even close to becoming true, we are actually more likely to live in space in a space station. Next was pills will replace food. That's not so far off due to people's obsession with diet pills. But not really substitutes for food. After that I gave up on predictions for awhile. The next notable prediction was made by Sarah Conner in Terminator 2, "On August 29th, 1997, it's gonna feel pretty f*cking real to you too. Anybody not wearing 2 million sunblock is gonna have a real bad day. Get it?." Now that prediction of course was solved by the end of the movie and it is truly doubtful to me that robots will ever take over the world solely because robots don't have souls or wills to live or fear of death or desire to conquer. These things would make sure a future full of killer robots impossible. And I love Demolition Man with Sandra Bullock, there are two future ideas in there that might come true. The first is: Lenina Huxley : I have, in fact, perused some newsreels in the Schwartzenegger Library. John Spartan : Hold it. The Schwartzenegger Library? Lenina Huxley :Yes. The Schwartzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn't he an actor when you... John Spartan : But how? He was President? LeninaHuxley :Yes! Even though he wasn't born in this country, his popularity at the time caused the 61st Amendment which states... John Spartan :I don' wanna know. President? Who knows after W Bush, Arnold might not look so bad. And the second was that Taco bell takes over as the only fast food chain. Now keep this in mind, Hispanics are the largest growing minority in America, so this could happen. Also they were very prophetic with the Gordita Revolution, it was an actual attempt at a fast food war! My next favorite prediction came in 1997 with the sighting of the Comet Hale-Bopp. An Arizona Indian came on TV and said this meant there were 7 years left in the world, that would put 2004 as the end. I really thought with the war this could happen. Now I read that is 2007 so we still have a few years before Bush gets us all killed. Now the funniest predictions I have seen as of late was Silvia Browne went on Montel Williams and predicted many celebrity break ups, including Jen & Brad Pitt. now that was a week before it happened and is really just gossip not prediction but it made me look at her website which is full of crazy stuff. The best for me was 2012 Aliens will finally revealed themselves to humans as they have been living on earth for years. Now if that's not funny there are plenty more on her site. So keep this in mind and the famous sunscreen song says, "Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday. "

Reality TV that is real.
Sure reality TV is poisoning our minds and giving everyone a chance at mini stardom but how many shows are really real and make a difference. Well I don't know but I'll rank the top 3 I have heard of. #3 American Idol, now it really fills the pockets of the music industry but it has inspired young people to sing and that's really important. In the short term it has also made stars out of more then the winners and given them all a door into the singing business they would not normally have. Kelly is awesome, Clay did well and Kimberly Lock is doing ok. Most of them are better off then they were before, and no body had to eat rats or jump off a mountain. #2 Biggest Loser, is about the best reality show for overweight Americans. I actually do sit ups while I watch just because it motivates me to take better care of myself. We have already seen that everyone on the show wins with new self confidence and a slimmer body. Its a true feel good TV show. #1 Extreme Home Makeover, this show is above and beyond the best reality show. It is an outpouring of goodness one family more sad then the one before. The one with the deaf family nearly had me in tears. If the world was as nice as this show is then it would be a better place for us all. It actually spawed from Trading Spaces and Extreme Makeover and now is bigger then both combine. It won an award at the People's Choice and I think it is the greatest reality show of all time!

Hero: Movie Review
Jet Li and Ziyi Zhang star in this martial arts story of a mane with no name hoping to bring peace to his county of China. I don't know if this movie is based in fact but the resulting ideas form it were amazing. The story is told almost entirely of flash backs and misleading dream sequences. At first I thought it was some weird kung fu art piece but as the movie went on the true story lines played out and it was brilliant. I really didn't expect all the twists and martial art and imagery was very beautiful. The film was like Hidden Dragon mixed with a dash of Kill Bill. And it is short so if you get bored it goes by rather quickly. I highly recommend this one for the creative plot and underlying message.

Good vs Evil for the Ultimate Good
The film Hero brings up an issue that is often discussed. What is good and who decides what is good. Is good saving just one life from the perils of drugs by killing drug smugglers? Or is it killing a insane dictator to save an entire nation? What is the greater good? Can you claim to be good if you are killing in the name of religion? Shouldn't religious people be passive and make change through faith? Sometimes is letting evil live on the greatest act of good, rather then doing evil in the name of good intentions? It is a very difficult idea and I could see why many American's did not grasp this movie. It written from the perspective of Chinese history and philosophies and we just don't turn our check or go on holy crusades. We can't die for others and maybe that is how we perceive death. As the ultimate end and not the beginning of a new life. In countries that still believe in reincarnation you can actually better your next life by the deeds you do in your first. So sacrifice comes easily and spirituality is more of a natural flow rather then a beginning and an end. The Ultimate good then becomes how can I die with honor and better others now and myself later. If we all lived this unselfishly would never have to help ourselves in this life as other would be willing to do it for us.
